The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) held a seminar on family education on January 17. Experts, scholars, principals and teachers from education and research institutions as well as workers from communities and grassroots women's federations took part in the gathering, discussing topics on family education.
Shen Yueyue, President of the ACWF, presided over the meeting. Huang Xiaowei, Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, attended the meeting.
Shen affirmed that active explorations have been made to promote family education theories and practices. She said the family is the smallest unit in the society, and a country is comprised of millions of families. Children's education is more than a family matter and parents' concern; it is a major issue that affects the future of the country.
Shen stressed that it is necessary to take General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speeches on family work as guidance, enhance the sense of political responsibility for family education, and make new and greater contributions to foster a new generation capable of shouldering the mission of national rejuvenation.
Shen pointed out that schools, families, and communities need to foster virtue through education and ensure that socialist core values are indelible in children's minds.
Efforts should be made to help children develop good thoughts and facilitate parents to integrate moral education into family and daily life, so that children develop their love for the Party, the motherland, socialism and loyalty to the Party, she said.
It is also important to cultivate children's good conduct and guide families to help children understand behavioral standards and norms so that they will grow into warmhearted children with good virtues and strong wills, Shen continued.
In addition, attention needs to be paid to developing children's good habits in life, learning, labor, morals, and use of media. Children are encouraged to fulfill their own tasks by themselves, help people willingly, and participate in public charity activities, she noted.
She went on to say that it is necessary to build a team including experts, teachers, family education instructors, volunteers and parents, establish a number of practice bases, build platforms integrating schools, parents and communities to enhance guidance and service on family education.
Chen Xiurong, President of the China Family Education Institute, and Cai Shumin, Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, attended the meeting.
